Tai Chi Classes You
Can Join This Week
At LFA Tai Chi Edinburgh, we are passionate about sharing the transformative benefits of this ancient Chinese health art with our community. Whether you're dealing with joint pain, stiffness, poor balance, low energy, or simply looking to move better — our classes meet you exactly where you are.
We offer classes across multiple Edinburgh venues as well as a full timetable of live Zoom classes — so you can practise whether you're at home or prefer to come in person.
"Every class is designed to work with your body, not against it — regardless of your age, fitness level, or experience."
— John Ward, LFA Tai Chi Edinburgh
I started John's class at 68 with two bad knees and zero experience. Within six weeks my balance had improved so much my daughter noticed before I did. I've now been coming for two years. Best decision I've made.

What Happens
In A Class?
-
①
Warm-Up — Gentle exercises to prepare your joints, muscles, and mind. Nothing strenuous — designed to feel good from the first minute.
-
②
Tai Chi Forms & Movements — Guided instruction through the LFA system sequences — slow, intentional movements that build strength, balance, and flexibility without strain.
-
③
Breathing & Mindfulness — Diaphragmatic breathing techniques woven into the movements — calming the nervous system, reducing cortisol, and improving energy.
-
④
Cool-Down & Relaxation — A gentle close to ground what you've practised. Most students leave feeling noticeably lighter and more settled than when they arrived.
Real People.
Real Results.
The Zoom classes are just as good as being there in person. John spots everything and gives corrections that have made a real difference to my lower back pain.
Anne, 59 — Tuesday Zoom class
I go to the Nuffield class on Wednesdays. I was very stiff in my hips when I started. After three months I'm walking up the stairs without holding the rail. I didn't think that was possible at 71.
Robert, 71 — Wednesday Nuffield class
I joined the online class because I couldn't get to Edinburgh easily. I was sceptical but it works perfectly — John sees everything. My arthritis-related knee pain has reduced enormously over 8 weeks. Thoroughly recommend.

Meet John Ward
John trained directly under the Lam Family Association (LFA) lineage — one of the most clinically-researched therapeutic Tai Chi systems in the world. He has been teaching in Edinburgh for over two decades across venues, community settings, and online.
His classes welcome complete beginners through to more experienced students, and he specialises in adapting every movement for people managing joint pain, arthritis, injury recovery, or poor balance.
"Whatever your body is carrying — I've taught through it. Come as you are."
Book Your First Class
Call or text John directly — he'll find the right class for you and answer any questions.
First class is free for new students. No commitment required. All levels welcome.
"But What If…?"
Q — "I've never done Tai Chi before."
Perfect. Every class starts from the beginning. You'll never be lost or left behind. Most of John's long-term students had zero experience when they first walked through the door.
Q — "I have a bad knee / hip / back."
Tell John before class and he'll adapt every movement for you. The LFA system is specifically designed for therapeutic modification — it's regularly recommended by Edinburgh physiotherapists for exactly these conditions.
Q — "Are the Zoom classes as good as in person?"
Yes. John keeps classes small so he can see every student clearly. Many of his most improved students attend exclusively on Zoom — and love not having the commute.
Q — "What do I need to bring?"
Comfortable clothing and flat shoes for in-person classes. For Zoom, just comfortable clothes and a 1.5-metre space in your home. No equipment needed for either.
Q — "How do I book?"
Simply call or text John on 07450-979625. He'll confirm your class, answer any questions, and make sure you're set up before your first session.
